- Quality Review Board (QRB): A cross-functional decision-making body responsible for evaluating and deciding upon the necessary rework or reprocess procedures, protocols, and associated actions such as validation or stability testing.
- Master Batch Record: The definitive "source of truth" containing the instructions for the established manufacturing process. This document is the benchmark used to determine if a step is a "repetition" (reprocessing) or a "departure" (rework).

- Protocol Elements and Impact Assessment The protocol must define the reason, scope, area clearance, and material/label reconciliation. Critically, it must include an assessment of the impact on material attributes, quality attributes, and stability/expiry dating.
- Why it matters: Reconciliation and area clearance prevent cross-contamination. The impact assessment ensures the drug remains stable; failure here can result in a total loss of batch traceability and potential product recall.
- Execution and Documentation Affected departments execute steps via the pre-approved protocol. For commercial products, documentation is included in the batch disposition package submitted to the client.
