- Define "Gap Analysis/Assessment" as the technique used to determine the necessary steps to move from a current state to a desired or future state.
- Identify at least three specific catalysts that trigger a gap assessment, such as regulatory updates, updates to compendia, or technical transfers.
- Contrast a gap assessment with a risk assessment, specifically identifying how one supports but does not replace the other within the Quality System.
- Recognize the documentation requirements for storing client-supplied assessments within the Electronic Document Management System (EDMS).

2. WHERE THIS POLICY SITS IN THE QUALITY SYSTEM
The Quality Management System (QMS) is organized into a specific hierarchy to ensure that every action taken on the manufacturing floor is grounded in regulatory requirements and management intent. The document hierarchy generally follows a four-tier structure:

It provides the high-level mandate for how we evaluate our processes against external and internal requirements. 3. WHY THIS POLICY MATTERS
In the pharmaceutical industry, being reactive is often synonymous with being non-compliant. Proactive gap identification is a strategic necessity; it allows us to identify where our current processes might fall short of new expectations before those shortcomings affect product quality. By systematically identifying these "gaps," we mitigate risks to patient safety and ensure the continued integrity of our manufacturing operations.
This policy governs the evaluation of potential gaps within three critical areas: processes, procedures, and regulatory compliance. It dictates how these gaps are documented, mitigated, or corrected using the broader Quality System.
The "So What?" factor is significant: failing to identify gaps during "Technical Transfer" or "Regulatory Updates" puts our regulatory standing and patient safety at risk. If we miss a discrepancy between a client’s previous manufacturing process and our own during onboarding, we risk process failures. If we ignore an update to a regulatory guidance, we jeopardize our standing with health authorities. This policy exists to prevent such oversights, linking individual diligence to the overarching principles of a Pharmaceutical Quality System.
